Today was the first day where I could simply catch up on sleep. We decided that at 11 pounds (roughly $22 something) the zoo fee was too much considering we woke up at 1 and the zoo closed at 4. So, a friend of mine and I got a lunch/dinner at an Italian cafe in the neighborhood around 5pm. It’s interesting, here tips aren’t expected in the places one would think. In some cases it almost compensates for how expensive everything is. Most of the evening was simply spent in the dorm. People here have only known each other for a few days. Tomorrow I plan on getting my Shakespeare and Restoration readings, and trying to figure out which History classes I got into. Sadly Archeology won’t happen. The departments are so strict that it’s a huge pain to work all of that out here.
That is very sad about the archeology class… I wonder, if you cared to, whether you could spend a weekend or an afternoon volunteering at a dig. Not the same thing as a class, but still a cool experience in the archeology field. I still think about the museums in York quite often.

Is English tipping like Continental tipping, where the service is included in the bill itself, and you just leave a few token good-will coins? We are really sorry about the Archeology disappointment. Clearly, it’s better to do archeology in England than in Georgia. However, maybe you’ll get a chance in the not-too-distant future to go to York and dig/dust. “A man’s reach should exceed his grasp, or what’s a heaven for?”

Archaeology was a disappointment in a sense, but it’s really okay. I can do it at some point if I really want to.
Tipping in England is odd. In America usually people tip a dollar per drink at bars and so forth, but here tipping is considered unusual. If service is particularly excellent you would order a pint for your bartender.
In terms of restaurants, you tip your wait-staff, but the cafe we went to you ordered at a counter so that doesn’t really apply.
